The Process
My idea started when I was looking around on Google for an idea of what to make into a decal. I was looking around at different images of flowers and came across an image of the outline of a unicorn head wearing a flower crown.
I decided to use this image. My plan was to keep the black outline to make sure the placement of the colors would line up, use gold for the inside of the horn, pink for the inside of the ears, and turquoise for the inside of the flowers.
I used the vinyl cutter to cut out all four of my colors.
I then took all four colors and weeded out the large pieces.
At this point I decided to add the colors to the black outline so that it would be easier to apply the decal in the end. I started with the horn which fit perfectly with minimal adjusting.
The pink in the ears was slightly more difficult to line up perfectly. At this point I was trying to make it as perfect as possible.
The flowers were the worst part. They are a weird shape that did not want to be removed in one piece. The flower on the left has a rip on the top of it from trying to remove it.
I then added transfer paper to the design and brought it home to put on my mirror.
When I got home that day I cleaned my mirror and then applied the transfer paper to the bottom of my mirror.
Final Result
Conclusion
Although this project was significantly easier than the laser projects were for me, there were still things that could have gone more smoothly. When adding the colors to the black outline I had some trouble getting them lined up perfectly. This seemed like a lesson in focus, but in the end there is no way to see the small space that I was focused on trying to get rid of. In the end doing this really taught me that sometimes the little details aren't as important as they seem.
